“The Traveler”

May 3, 2026    Rev Earl Dunn

This powerful message takes us deep into 2 Samuel 12, where the prophet Nathan confronts King David with a parable about a rich man who stole a poor man's beloved lamb. The story reveals a profound truth about how the flesh operates in our lives as 'the traveler'—that unwelcome visitor who shows up uninvited and wreaks havoc in our spiritual homes. Just as no army could penetrate the walls of David's city, yet temptation walked right through the door, we too find that our greatest battles aren't always with external enemies but with the desires within. The message unpacks the trinity of temptation—the world, the flesh, and the devil—showing us that the flesh is perhaps the most persistent enemy because it travels with us everywhere we go. What makes this teaching particularly compelling is its honest acknowledgment that if David, Israel's greatest king, could fall to the traveler, so can we. But we're not left without hope or strategy. We're given four practical weapons: hiding God's Word in our hearts, finding accountability partners who won't betray our trust, actively resisting through spiritual warfare, and sometimes simply running from situations that are too dangerous to fight. The call is clear—stop feeding what's killing you and start nourishing what God has placed within you.
