“Some Will Follow Jesus and Some Won’t”
In John chapter 6, we encounter a profound moment where Jesus separates casual followers from committed disciples. After feeding the 5,000, crowds pursued Jesus—not for spiritual truth, but for another free meal. His response cuts to the heart of authentic faith: 'I am the bread of life.' This message explores three types of followers that still exist today. First, the feel-good followers who chase blessings, emotions, and personal comfort rather than Christ Himself. They stay as long as their needs are met but walk away when the message gets hard. Second, the faithful followers, exemplified by Peter's powerful confession: 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.' These believers focus not on feelings or benefits, but on Jesus and His Word. Finally, there are fake followers like Judas—outwardly indistinguishable from genuine disciples, yet ultimately betrayers. The sobering reality is that we cannot always identify them, but God knows from the beginning. This passage challenges us to examine our own hearts: Are we following Jesus for what we can get, or because He alone is worthy? Are we focused on our feelings or on His truth? The faithful follower doesn't chase emotions or comfort—they anchor themselves in Christ's identity and Scripture's authority, even when the path is difficult.
