“Focus on JESUS”
This powerful message takes us into Hebrews 12:1-2, where we're reminded that our Christian life is not a casual stroll but an intentional race requiring focus and dedication. The passage builds on Hebrews 11's hall of faith, showing us that a great cloud of witnesses surrounds us—those who've gone before, who lived their faith with conviction and action. The central challenge presented is this: we must lay aside every weight and distraction that hinders our spiritual progress. In our modern world, we're constantly bombarded with distractions—our phones, our schedules, our comfort-seeking habits—that pull our attention away from what truly matters. The message draws a compelling parallel to Olympic athletes who train with singular focus, removing anything that might slow them down. They don't carry extra weight; they don't allow distractions during competition. Similarly, we're called to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him. That joy was us—our salvation, our adoption into God's family. When we truly grasp what Christ endured for love of us, it transforms our walk from religious obligation into grateful relationship. The question we must ask ourselves: if we can't focus on the Lord during a worship service, how will we focus on Him when Monday's challenges come? This isn't about earning salvation through performance; it's about living intentionally for the One who gave everything for us.
