FREEDOM FELLOWSHIP MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH

“Absolutely Essential”

Feb 22, 2026    Dr Sam Murray

In a world filled with spiritual seminars, self-help programs, and countless resources promising deeper faith experiences, we're reminded that the essentials of Christian growth haven't changed since the early church. Acts 6:4 reveals what the apostles considered non-negotiable: continual prayer and ministry of the Word. These aren't optional add-ons to our spiritual lives—they're the foundation itself. Just as breathing requires both inhaling and exhaling, our relationship with God requires both prayer (talking to Him) and Scripture (listening to Him). The beauty of this message is its accessibility: we don't need special credentials, expensive workshops, or complicated formulas. What we need is consistency. Jesus Himself, while literally starving after forty days of fasting, declared that God's Word is more important than physical food. When we hunger for Scripture with the same intensity we feel for our next meal, transformation happens. Prayer isn't meant to be formal or fancy—it's meant to be constant, like an ongoing conversation with someone who never tires of hearing from us. When we commit to these basics with the persistence of the widow who wore down the unjust judge, we position ourselves for genuine spiritual growth that no seminar could ever manufacture.
