“A Good Soldier”

Sep 20, 2026  •  Pastor Earl Dunn

What does it truly mean to be a soldier in the army of God? Drawing from 2 Timothy chapter 2, we are challenged to examine the depth of our commitment and the quality of our spiritual service. The passage calls us to endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, and that phrase alone carries extraordinary weight. A good soldier is not defined by comfort or convenience but by faithfulness, determination, and an unwillingness to retreat. We are reminded that we are volunteers in this army, which means our presence is a choice we renew every single day. The message draws a striking contrast between a Christian who settles into ease and one who remains engaged in the fight. Just like a man fishing in a backyard washtub, we can go through the motions of faith while losing the reward, the camaraderie, and the fire that make it all meaningful. This overview invites us to ask ourselves honestly whether we are truly standing at our post or whether we have quietly drifted toward comfort at the expense of purpose.
