“The Going”

May 3, 2026    Rev Earl Dunn

This powerful message from 2 Samuel 5 reminds us that the Christian life is designed to be a journey of victory after victory, not defeat after defeat. We encounter David at a pivotal moment—fresh from anointing as king and experiencing tremendous success against the Philistines. Yet the profound truth emerges: no matter how many victories we celebrate, there will always be a 'yet again' moment when the enemy returns. What makes this passage so relevant to our daily struggles is David's response. Instead of relying on past victories or his own strength, he inquired of the Lord each time. The breakthrough comes when we learn three essential movements of faith: inquiring (asking God for direction), listening (waiting in silence for His supernatural signal), and obeying (moving when He says move). The phrase 'sound of a going' represents that unique, personal signal God gives each of us—a divine cue that only we can recognize when we're truly tuned in to His voice. Whether we're battling addiction, broken relationships, workplace challenges, or the persistent flesh, the secret to victory isn't just getting through the valley—it's allowing God to shape us through it. Every battle is different, requiring fresh dependence on God rather than formulas from past successes.
