What does it truly mean to follow Jesus when the road ahead is uncertain and the path looks nothing like we imagined? In John chapter 21, we find Peter at a crossroads, having witnessed the crucifixion and resurrection, yet returning to the familiar comfort of fishing. It is in this moment that Jesus meets him and delivers a profound life lesson that cuts straight to the heart of discipleship. Jesus walks Peter through three dimensions of his journey: the past, where he once moved freely with little responsibility; the future, where he would be led places he would not choose on his own; and the present, where the singular command rings out clearly: follow me. This message reminds us that God's plan for each of us is deeply personal. We are not called to measure our journey against anyone else's, but to keep our eyes fixed forward on Christ. Just as Peter tried to redirect his attention toward John and what John's path would look like, we too are tempted to look over the fence and wonder why someone else's life appears easier or more blessed. The answer Jesus gives is both direct and liberating: that is not your concern. Your calling is your own. Follow me.
