“A Battle You Didn’t Choose”
What do you do when a battle finds you that you never asked for? In 2 Chronicles 20, we encounter a king named Jehoshaphat who woke up one day to discover three armies marching against him. He had not provoked them. He had not sought the conflict. Yet there it was. And the honest, human response he had is one we all recognize: fear. But what happened next is what makes this story so worth sitting with. Rather than scrambling for a military strategy, Jehoshaphat set his face toward God. He gathered his people, stood before the Lord, and prayed one of the most transparent prayers in all of Scripture, admitting openly that he did not know what to do but that his eyes were fixed on God. This message walks us through three powerful responses to the battles we did not choose: praying our way through, praising our way through, and pausing our way through. Each one challenges the instinct to rely on our own strength and invites us instead into a posture of trust. The battle, as God declared to Jehoshaphat, was never his to fight alone. And that same declaration echoes across the centuries directly into whatever we are carrying today.
