“Adversaries We Face Today”

Aug 16, 2026    Rev James Sampson

What if the very chapter and verse numbers we sometimes gloss over in our Bibles held a thread connecting some of the most powerful truths in all of Scripture? That is exactly the journey we take in this message, as we trace the number 6:33 across ten different books of the Bible, uncovering a tapestry of spiritual insight woven together by God's design. We begin in Judges, where three ancient enemies of Israel -- the Midianites, the Amalekites, and the children of the east -- reveal themselves as timeless symbols of the very adversaries we face today: discord that tears apart the body of Christ, depression that pulls us into valleys of despair, and pride that places self before God. Recognizing these enemies for what they are is the first step toward standing against them. From there, we move into the genealogies of 1 Chronicles, where a list of unfamiliar names suddenly comes alive with meaning. Each name in Heman's lineage carries a spiritual truth -- faithfulness, commitment, prayer, humility, compassion, and the sweet presence of God in our lives. These are not just ancient family records; they are a portrait of what it looks like to be a genuine ally of God. The message reminds us that being on God's side is not about recognition or status, but about quietly, faithfully serving Him in whatever capacity He calls us to. This overview of our spiritual identity and our spiritual enemies sets the stage for a deeper exploration of God's provision and His open invitation to all who would seek Him.
